Director John Michael McDonagh presents the story of a wealthy couple on the verge of divorce who accidentally hit and kill a Moroccan boy selling fossils by the roadside. This tragic event leaves David Henninger (Ralph Fiennes) going to the boy's family to honor his life and atone for the killing. This leaves his wife Jo (Jessica Chastain) to attend the lavish party they were expected to visit. David seems initially unaware of the seriousness of his crime, while Jo is blissful to be rid of him for the evening. While her husband awaits his fate, Jo indulges in hedonism.
