Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar
This documentary, part of the 20th Century With Mike Wallace series from CBS News and the History Channel, takes a look through history at the evolution of hate crimes. Narrated by series host and CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace, this episode explores the world of the Ku Klux Klan and delves into one of the most controversial KKK cases ever -- the 1964 attack and murder of three civil rights workers in Mississippi. To look beyond the KKK and other more modern organizations responsible for hate-related crimes, Wallace is joined by the father of the Mississippi Freedom Project, Bob Moses, and James Corcoran, author of Bitter Harvest. More current research shows that hate groups have moved beyond targeting individuals and are focusing their hate crimes on governmental organizations and even technological areas, such as the Internet.
