Synopsis by Nathan Southern
This release actually brings together two different performances of Stravinsky ballets, originally staged two years apart. A 1992 production by the Bolshoi Ballet finds that legendary ensemble interpreting Petrushka and The Rite of Spring, with choreography by Mikhail Fokine and a cast that includes Yuri Vetrov, Vyacheslav Elagin, and Ludmila Semenyaka. The second half of the release features a rendition of The Rite of Spring by the Moscow Classical Ballet, originally mounted and performed in 1990, with choreography by Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilev; the cast in that set includes Ilgiz Galimullin, Valeria Tsoi, Vera Timashova, and Sergei Vanaev.
