Synopsis by Olivia Cantor
Documentarists Julie Cohen and Betsy West unfold the life of African American civil rights figure Pauli Murray, the women’s rights champion, lawyer, and author who was fighting for social justice way ahead of the likes of Rosa Parks and before laws on gender were challenged in the U.S. Supreme Court. Said to have served as an inspiration for Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s advocacy, Murray herself narrates her life journey through archival interviews as she discusses how she exists in the intersections of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, and civil rights activism.
