Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This video is part four of a five-part series from PBS that examines the problem of drug and alcohol addiction in America. Bill Moyers leads the viewer on a search for causes and cures to this pervasive social problem. Scientific research shows that genetics, as well as environment, plays a part in putting an individual at risk for addiction. Many programs have been established to identify at-risk youths and to take measures to prevent or stop the addictive process. This episode looks at the efforts of the Dade County, FL, school system to prevent addiction to drugs, including tobacco and alcohol. The video also looks at a family systems approach to prevention with a group of heroin addicts and their families.
