Synopsis by Sarah Ing

A&E explores the dark side of love in the one-hour American Justice: A Woman Scorned -- The Betty Broderick Story. Like many couples, Betty Broderick and Dan Broderick had their ups and downs. Mainly, Betty thought their marriage was solid. It wasn't until she found about his affair that things started to crumble. The resulting divorce and custody trial was rough for Betty, but nobody had any idea how rough. In November of 1989, the emotionally wrecked Betty killed her ex-husband and his wife. Host Bill Kurtis tracks the subsequent trials of this avenging housewife. After an initial mistrial because the jurors couldn't decide if the killings were premeditated, Betty was convicted of second-degree murder. Her accusations of emotional abuse and the moving testimony of her children guaranteed a memorable court battle, one that Betty would be fighting for years to come.
