Synopsis by Mark Deming

The Temple Of Violet Bamboo Forest is a Buddhist organization in China's Yueyang City where Master Liao Guo has established an archive of writings and artifacts pertaining to the faith. Using the Kunshan Temple as a gathering place, Guo and the group spend their time studying the principles of Buddhism and well as putting its tenets into effect, providing volunteer care for the old and the needy and using their resources to improve the community. Filmmaker Wenhai Huang offers a look into the Temple of Violet Forest and the people who take part in its programs in the documentary Reconstructing Faith (aka Xifang Qu Ci Bu Yuan). The film was an official selection at the 2010 Venice Film Festival.
