Fairly average as Columbia westerns goes, Pioneers of the Frontier certainly doesn't break any new boundaries. William Elliott, however, makes a good old-fashioned cowboy hero and Dub Taylor's comedy antics are at least kept to a tolerable minimum. Of interest to trivia fans is the appearance here of Linda Winters who, as Dorothy Comingore, would ensure herself a prominent place in film history by portraying the ill-fated Susan Alexander in Citizen Kane (1941). As a B-western leading lady, Miss Comingore, like Pioneers of the Frontier itself, breaks no new ground.
