Synopsis by Olivia Cantor
Co-written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, this Hindi historical drama reimagines the scenario in 1947 India, right after the Partition. Mahatma Gandhi (Deepak Antani) is the popular anti-colonial nationalist targeted by an assassination attempt. While in real life he didn’t survive, the film reimagines this event wherein he did. His assassin, Nathuram Godse (Chinmay Mandlekar), holds opposite beliefs. Upon recovering, Gandhi visits Godse in prison, and they have meaningful conversations. The story also reimagines what India would have been like if Gandhi had survived the assassination.
