Contemporary critics had surprisingly kind words for Helen Twelvetrees but modern viewers may not be quite as charitable. The actress, who, as the joke went, was Rin Tin Tin's favorite, is especially doleful in this badly written and rather tawdry little melodrama, which spends an inordinate time getting to the point. While slowly getting from A to B, Miss Twelvetrees sheds a river of tears and Eric Linden goes from braggadocio to repentance without changing his expression. But the screenplay is rather ambiguous regarding the youngster's sudden transformation from heel to devoted husband and the happy ending seems added solely to comply with convention.
