Review by Buzz McClain

A not very thrilling thriller, Wrong Number struggles to pull a Rashomon triptych trick, but director Richard Middleton is no Akira Kurosawa. The three versions of the events are not very cleverly rendered -- we don't see the same scenes from different angles as told from different viewpoints, for instance -- and if you're not hip to the concept of the film you're going to be very confused once the story starts over again. Brigitte Bako has an odd pouty allure about her, but her character is so rhymes-with-witchy you just want to leave the room. Better is David Lipper as the company man who runs the company into the ground with somewhat questionable accounting tactics; his character is a repulsive geek with money and the only interesting personality on the screen. Eric Roberts gives a surprisingly restrained performance as a businessman who has it all, including a beautiful wife and a string of girlfriends. But will anyone care that he's dying for the entire run length of the film? No.
