Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This series from the History Channel explores some of the most dangerous and deadly natural disasters of all time, including this episode on the great flood of the Mississippi River in 1927. Experts lend their opinions on why this happened, when the Mighty Mississippi caused many towns and areas to be covered by water. Historians talk about how some small towns in the outskirts of the New Orleans area were sacrificed to save the Big Easy. There also was a controversy of some plantation owners using black workers for free labor to clean up the damage from the floods, claiming they had volunteered. Experts also talk about how today the river is said to be under control, but how this is just an illusion and how a disaster is potentially waiting right around the corner.
