Synopsis by Rob Ferrier

Each episode of World Steam Journeys offers a portrait of a forgotten phase of world travel. Once ubiquitous, steam trains are now rare examples of the might and technical power of forgotten empires and the influence they wielded across the globe. Not simply relics of a past time however, these old machines are still put to their intended use in some of the farther corners of the world, a tangible reminder of the empires that once spread their aegis over most of the globe. Each episode of this series profiles a railroad where steam is still king. This episode profiles a narrow gauge railway in Pakistan once used to transport British Troop to the area of the Khyber Pass. Now the rail line serves a more prosaic task, moving goods and people through an area still considered a frontier.
