Review by Robert Firsching

This was the first of the Olga series of "nudie-kinkies," and was so popular that it was followed by Olga's Girls, Olga's House of Shame, and Olga's Massage Parlor. White Slaves of Chinatown is considered to be the first nudie-kinkie of any kind, and is characteristic of a subgenre obsessed with sadistic bondage and fetish situations. It is to be distinguished from the "nudie-roughie," which primarily dealt with rape themes, and the "nudie-ghoulie," which threw graphic violence and horror elements into the mix. Indeed, the film's roughest elements -- a rape and an illegal abortion -- are both performed offscreen, however there are scenes of two people shooting up with heroin, brief lesbian fondling, and a woman's bloodied hand as it is crushed in a vise. Audrey Campbell, who plays Olga, caused some uproar in Cincinnati in the mid-'50s when, as Audrey Thiele, she appeared as The Girl in the Window on WKRC-TV's local late movie. As host Don Anderson introduced the film from a living-room set, Thiele could be seen getting ready for bed through a window. Her nightgowns were never particularly scandalous, but were quite controversial nonetheless. She went on to star in several exploitation films before playing Mrs. Beck on TV's The Guiding Light. The production values verge on nonexistent, as the black-and-white film has no synchronized dialogue, entirely narrated by Campbell and the pompous-sounding Joe Holt. The most unusual element of White Slaves of Chinatown is the music, which consists of tinkly Chinese themes, lame jazz, and the overuse of "Night on Bald Mountain" to underscore any vaguely dramatic moment.
