Review by Hans J. Wollstein

A very funny and quite startling sequence in Western Jamboree has Smiley Burnette dangling high above the treetops holding on for dear life to a balloon filled with helium. No trickery was used and Burnette later admitted to have been "slightly jittery." Unfortunately, the rest of the music western is not quite as adventurous and actually wastes an otherwise promising setup. The producers dragged in Esther Muir, Groucho Marx's voluptuous nemesis in A Day at the Races (1937), and veteran vaudeville entertainer Joe Frisco but then failed to give them anything funny to say or do. But the songs are good and Autry is his usual stalwart self. Watch out for future singing cowboy Eddie Dean making his screen debut as one of the Circle J ranch hands.
