Synopsis by Mark Deming

A handful of friends get a better idea of how they really feel about one another in this independent comedy from writer and director Kyle Smith. Eight friends who have known each other since college get together every year for an allegedly friendly game of touch football. They call the annual meeting "The Turkey Bowl," with tradition dictating that a frozen turkey goes to the winning team. While at one time all eight players were close friends, these days most of them never see or hear from one another except on Turkey Bowl day, and while the tradition lives on, it's clear they have little or nothing to say to one another ten years out of school. On Turkey Bowl day, the two informal teams, The Bandits and The Meerkats, meet in a city park only to discover each side has brought along a ringer, which particularly troubles the less-athletic members of the group. As the game plays itself out, the tensions and grudges between the folks on the field rise to the surface. Shot and edited so that the game plays out in real time, Turkey Bowl received its world premiere at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival.
