British photographer Madeleine Farley directs Trollywood, a documentary about homelessness in Los Angeles. The film explores the survivalist use of shopping carts (called trollies in Britain) for practically everything in daily life. Farley appears in onscreen interviews with members of L.A.'s heterogeneous homeless population. She investigates the lack of resources offered to these citizens. Particularly disheartening is a look at the legal case involving the Internet-based show "Bumfight." Farley and an actual homeless friend end up crashing a charity ball for the homeless. Members of charitable organizations, government employees, and mental health workers also offer expert commentary. Trollywood was shown at the Berlin Film Festival in 2004.
