Rip-off masters Asylum Entertainment has either reached a new high -- or a bafflingly low one with Transmorphers, a cheap sci-fi actioner that's as shameless as it is inept. Exploitive genre fare is nothing new, though you wouldn't be the only one to see this movie and think -- "Really? That's the best they've got!?!" There's no doubt about it, Transmorphers is a mess -- albeit a highly goofy for those that care enough to love the very worst. Asylum's self-proclaimed "go to guy" Leigh Scott (Pirates of Treasure Island, Hillside Cannibals) is once again at the helm of this production, filling it with dime-store actors with major line reading problems -- even though they're all dubbed... Yeah, it's just one of those flicks. What makes the whole thing even ranker is how much wall-to-wall dialogue makes up most of the flick, despite the fact that it's supposed to be about cool killer robots! And how about that animation? Well, the bottom of the barrel never looked so cheap -- and quizzically dated. After all, this was made in 2007, where even home movies had better CG. Sadly, the visuals aren't helped much by the sound mix that doesn't even bother with sound effects half the time -- confusing both blind audience members as well as those unlucky enough to set eyes on this sucker. Thankfully, the atrocious acting is quite endearing and makes for a pretty humorous experience when it all comes down to it. One thing is for sure though, at least this sucker knows what it is and looks to have spared every expense to get to where it has -- which officially makes it the perfect counter-programming to its overlong, confused and sickeningly expensive big budget cousin.
