Review by Craig Butler

This Woman is Dangerous is a great title for a 1950s melodrama, and it's a shame that the film itself isn't as good as the title. Woman isn't bad, mind you, but that title prepares you for a real humdinger of a flick -- and then the finished product lets you down a bit. Aside from David Brian's extravagant and at times grotesque performance, most of Woman feels a bit "tied down." You watch it feeling that Crawford is holding herself back a little and that director Felix E. Feist was looking for permission to let himself go a bit more. The result would not necessarily have been a higher quality picture, but it would have been a bit more entertaining -- and Brian's performance in that kind of context would have made a bit more sense at least. Though a bit restrained -- perhaps because she is reported to have genuinely hated the project -- Crawford still manages to find plenty of moments to work her particular magic, and at times is quite touching. Dennis Morgan is okay as the new love in her life, although he doesn't light up the screen the way you keep wanting him to. The screenplay is a lot of hobgobble, and you never believe the various relationships, but as a vehicle for Crawford, it works fine.
