Synopsis by Mark Deming

Guitarist and songwriter Jorge Drexler is a major star in Spain and Latin America, and has been attracting a growing following in the United States since his music was featured in the film The Motorcycle Diaries, earning him an Academy Award nomination for the song "Al otro lado del rio" (aka "On the Other Side of the River"). Filmmaker Manuel Huerga and a small camera crew accompanied Drexler for a Catalan tour in 2007, and the documentary Un Instante Preciso (aka This Very Instant) offers an intimate look at the artist both on and off stage. In addition to footage of Drexler in performance, he talks about working with his band, the endless travel that comes with touring, taking care of his nails (a major consideration for a Spanish guitarist), how his songs are inspired by everything from bells to noises on the street, and his relationship with his audience. This Very Instant was an official selection at the 2009 BFI London Film Festival.
