Co-directors Zabou Breitman and Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec’s politically-charged animation film is an adaptation of Yasmina Khadra’s 2006 novel of the same name. In 1998, a young couple’s love and optimism is dashed by the repressive Taliban regime. The historian Mohsen (Swann Arlaud) is separated from the artist Zunaira (Zita Hanrot) when the latter is imprisoned and sentenced to death for murder.
