The Strike sounds a lot better than it looks. As low-budget, independent, martial arts action films go, it's pretty miserable, with none of the zip and zing that make equivalent efforts from, say, Hong Kong at least passably watchable. Nominal star Andre Buckner is a charming enough leading man, but he's light-years ahead of the rest of the amateur cast. The direction is hollow, and the actors recite their lines as if they'd been rehearsing them all night. The fight scenes are stagy and unconvincing, with kicks and punches missing by a mile and yet still knocking opponents into walls.
