Synopsis by Mark Deming

A group of children are introduced to evil by one of their peers in this dark drama from writer and director Arpad Sopsits. Sebestyen (Laszlo Krikkai) is a strange boy whose family moves into a seemingly ordinary neighborhood in Hungary. Sebestyen quickly makes a strong impression on the other children he meets -- he has learned to throw a knife with startling accuracy, he has provocative opinions about religion and the nature of God, and one day he finds a dead bird and seemingly restores it to life. Sanyi (Benett Vilmanyi), a shy boy who lives nearby, is mesmerized by Sebestyen and his talents, but Sanyi's close friend Jakab (Tamas Eross) is suspicious of his motives and tricks, and when Sebestyen introduces his new friends to a dangerous game that involved suffocating themselves with plastic bags, Jakab is convinced the new neighbor has gone too far. A Hetedik Kor (aka The Seventh Circle) was the third in a series of films by Arpad Sopsits dealing with the corruption of youth, following 2001's Torzok (aka Abandoned) and 1990's Cellovolde (aka The Shooting Gallery).
