Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although the plot to this Essanay drama was older than time (even by 1916 standards), Elizabeth Burbridge manages to be appealing in her role. After the death of her father, Rose Lane (Burbridge) is forced to go to work as a typist to earn a living. Even though she has given up all hope of ever becoming an actress, she is able to land an engagement with Jermaine, a theatrical producer. One of his stars, Herriman (Edward Arnold), saw Rose perform in a college play, and recommends that she be allowed to have a bit part in the latest production. Both the director and the leading lady have their reasons for wanting Rose fired, but when Jermaine discovers their scheme, he gets rid of them instead. Rose is given the lead role, and the play is a huge success. The film takes on an even more fairy tale-like quality when Herriman proposes to Rose after the premiere.
