Synopsis by Mark Deming

Hogs and hookers play an unexpected role in a young man's introduction to the adult world in this comedy-drama from Japanese filmmaker Yohichi Sai. Shockichi (Yukiyoshi Ozawa) is a studious 19-year-old who has little experience with women. Shockichi never knew his father, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances when he was young, but when he gets word that his dad's remains have washed up on the shore of the island of Maja-jima, Shockichi sets out to see they're dealt with properly. En route to the island, Shockichi makes a stop in Okinawa and meets three attractive women who make their living as prostitutes. Shockichi invites the women along as a way of teaching them a more honorable way of life; they tag along, mainly because they'd like a vacation, but a dinner of spoiled pork makes the voyage unpleasant for them as well as the travelers around them. Buta No Mukui (aka The Pig's Retribution) also stars Yoshie Hayasaka, Michiko Ameku, Mayumi Ueda and Susumu Taira.
