Synopsis by Mark Deming

Music bridges a generation gap while making strange bedfellows in this comedy from Belgian filmmaker Geoffrey Enthoven. Claire (Marilou Mermans) is nearing 70 years of age when her life is turned upside down by the death of her husband. At the funeral, Claire is reunited with two childhood friends she hasn't seen in years, Lutgard (Lut Tomsin) and Magda (Lea Couzin); in the early '60s, Claire, Lutgard, and Magda were members of a singing group, the Sisters of Love, and seeing her old friends reminds Claire of the career she gave up long ago. Claire's son, Alexander (Jan Van Looveren), works in the music business as a record producer, and when she, Lutgard, and Magda decide to reunite the act and give show business another shot, she asks if he can help them make a new album. Alexander isn't interested at first -- he still resents his mother's lack of support for his career early on, and needs a hit too badly to waste his time on a long shot like the Sisters of Love. But Alexander grudgingly agrees to produce their comeback under the condition they cover some contemporary pop hits, and he's as surprised as anyone when the Sisters of Love begin attracting an audience for their covers of numbers like "Pump Up the Jam." Meisjes (aka The Over the Hill Band) was an official selection at the 2010 Cinequest Film Festival.
