Synopsis by Mark Deming

Love, time and romantic rivalries make trouble for two friends in this offbeat drama from directors Imad Noury and Swel Noury. In the future, most of the world is gripped in a global war and computers have been outlawed. X (Said Bey) and Ney (Fehd Benchemsi) are close friends who work together at the Ministry of War in a nameless land by the ocean. They also share a small apartment, and Ney has long felt a vague attraction to X, though he's never spoken of it. X, however, has fallen in love with Lili (Audrey Marnay), a beautiful woman who works as a nightclub performer. X has asked Lili to marry him, and taken several weeks off from work to spend time wither her; however, lots of paperwork has accumulated in his absence at work, and he begins gulping coffee and taking speed as he struggles to get caught up. When X introduces Lili to his roommate, Ney finds he's attracted to both Lily and X, making his situation especially complicated, while stress and lack of sleep nudge X into mental instability. The Man Who Sold The World was freely adapted from a short story by Fyodor Dostoevsky; the film was an official selection at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival.
