Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Filmed in Czechoslovakia in 1957, The Goalkeeper Also Lives on Our Street made it to American shores five years later. The film is a semiserious probe of "ice hockey fever", as seen through the eyes of preteens. The story is hinged on the long-standing rivalry between two teams of Prague schoolboys. A professional hockey star (Otomar Korbelar) moves into the neighborhood, offering his services as a goalkeeper--leading both teams to fall over themselves in attempting to curry his favor. Running a little over an hour, The Goalkeeper Also Lives on Our Street was first telecast in the US in 1972, as part of the CBS Children's Film Festival weekend series.
