After Willard (Bill Skarsgård) finds out that his wife Charlotte (Haley Bennett) has cancer, he builds an altar for a god to whom he performs blood sacrifices for in exchange for her full recovery. Charlotte, however, still dies an agonizing death, pushing Willard to sacrifice his own life next. This leaves their child Arthur (Tom Holland) orphaned, who grows up to be good but violent in his own ways. The movie, which is adapted from a Donald Ray Pollock novel of the same name, is directed by Antonio Campos.
