The Detectress is the comedy of repetition. Gale Henry, Milburn Morante and the entire cast are constantly dropped into a pit of water and run rampant through a Chinese fun house complete with numerous trap doors; in other words, chase comedy at its most basic. The sight gags are often quite elaborate (the house, Lizzie's very fresh and downright alive Chinese dinner, etc.) but the pace is too frenetic and the ethnic slurs may offend less tolerant modern audiences.
