Lifelong city dwellers Andrew and Claire move to a dilapidated schoolhouse in the country in an attempt to make a clean break with the past, and learn that starting over comes with its own set of challenges as the locals in their new small town prepare to witness an upcoming eclipse. Shortly after meeting their new neighbors -- an aging widow who lives with her blind niece, Maria -- the troubled couple begins to suspect that isolating themselves may actually be doing more harm than good. Meanwhile, Claire begins to form an unhealthy fascination with Maria, and reconnects with a figure from her past in a desperate bid to overcome the emotional pain that still lingers deep within her. Later, in the afterglow of the eclipse, Andrew and Claire find their lives changed in ways they never could have anticipated.
