Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This documentary, part of the 20th Century With Mike Wallace series from CBS News and the History Channel, goes behind-the-scenes into the dangers of uncovering hidden secrets and going public with them. Narrated by series host and CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace, this episode focuses on the case of Jeffrey Wigand, a former cigarette company employee who revealed the true facts about the additive contents in nicotine. After Wigand went public with his accusations, his family was threatened, his marriage faltered, his name was ruined, and he was publicly humiliated. 20th Century With Mike Wallace investigates how cases like this are not so rare, interviewing some former company officials who talk about how far they go to keep company secrets confidential.
