Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This documentary, part of the 20th Century With Mike Wallace series from CBS News and the History Channel, takes a close look inside the decades-old conflict between the Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland. Narrated by series host and CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace, this episode first gives background history of the Irish Republic Army (IRA) and of other groups embroiled in this age-old series of conflicts. Spilling over into London with attacks on English citizens and landmarks, the IRA is a group known around the world for their belief in their cause and the violent means they use to get their point across. 20th Century With Mike Wallace features exclusive interviews with reporters who have covered this heated controversy from the beginning. There are also interviews with experts on these Irish/British relations, including Paul Arthur, Seamus Deane, and John Hume, all of whom share their opinions on these conflicts and what the future holds.
