Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

In this documentary, part of the 20th Century With Mike Wallace series from CBS News and the History Channel, series host and CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace examines the legal and social history of the pro-choice and pro-life abortion arguments. This episode goes back to study the days prior to and right after the famous Roe vs. Wade case that legalized abortion in America. Subsequent court cases are looked at, in addition to how the legalization of abortion changed American society forever. Feminist leaders from the past and present are interviewed about their opinions on the history of reproductive freedom. From the other side of the argument, those who strongly oppose the legalization of abortion speak out about their views. 20th Century With Mike Wallace also looks at this significant development of the feminist movement in the 1970s and how the Roe vs. Wade outcome contributed to it.
