Two families are shaken by the death of a woman in this independent drama. When Anna, the matriarch of a New York family, suddenly dies, her adult children Charlie (Josh Hamilton) and Jackie (Ally Sheedy) are surprised that their late mother's close friend Grace (Tovah Feldshuh) is taking care of all the details of the funeral. They're even more surprised when Grace reveals why -- she and Anna had been lovers for many years. Jackie is shaken by her mother's death but isn't sure what to make of this revelation, and it throws her feelings about Anna in chaos, while Charlie seems to have given up on his own future, preferring not to deal with a serious health problem despite the pleas of his girlfriend Susan (Sherri Saum). Meanwhile, Grace's daughter Josephine (Jennifer Regan) is struggling with sobriety and the feeling that nothing in her life has truly taken the place of drugs and alcohol. Ten Stories Tall was the first feature film from writer and director David Garrett.
