Synopsis by Mark Deming
A change of scenery does a depressed cop a world of good in this offbeat comedy-drama from Poland. Andrzej (Jiri Machacek) is a police officer who, after a string of bad luck and personal disappointments, is given a new assignment as a bicycle patrolman in the small town of Zlobiska. Andrzej finds himself sharing a flat with Lewandowski (Lech Lotocki), a cheerful middle-aged guy with a fondness for alcohol, and the new policeman in town soon discovers that for a small village of good-natured people, a surprising number of folks turn up dead, though he's able to solve his first homicide when Kosciejny (Marian Dziedziel) sheepishly turns himself in after killing a man he thought was sleeping with his wife. Despite the odd murder here and there, Andrzej develops a new lease on life in Zlobiska, especially after meeting the beautiful Lubica (Zuzana Fialova). Wino Truskawkowe (aka Strawberry Wine) was the first dramatic feature from filmmaker Dariusz Jablonski.
