Review by Jeremy Wheeler

Still Smokin' finds the pot-fueled comedy duo Cheech and Chong in the one place where their typical brand of humor should flourish, Amsterdam, but despite their mining of classic comedy album material, the film is a dreadful bore that is downright excruciating to get through. The idea of the two being mistaken for Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton does work for a couple of absurd laughs, but the fun stops as soon as the flick throws out the script and turns straight to skit mode. Some might find pleasure in seeing many of their classic stage numbers reinterpreted on the big screen, but the sad fact is that the magic was gone by this point, with their impeccable comic timing replaced by meandering scenes that go nowhere fast. What should have been a genius setup for another pot-flavored comedy eventually turns into a poor concert film in the last act that hinges far too much on tired character sketches and less on the countercultural leanings that made Cheech and Chong so funny to begin with.
