Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Filmed with the cooperation of the Italian Navy, S.O.S. Submarine documents the latest advances of submarine warfare. American audiences in 1948 were probably amused by the fact that the film was already several years old, and that many of the "revolutionary" war-making devices were by now out of date. Most of the film takes place on the decks of Submarine A-103 during a 72-hour test mission. The film concludes with a series of vignettes demonstrating the efficiency of Italian seaplanes, PTs, tugboats and the like. The English-language version of S.O.S. Submarine was prepared by Screen Guild Films.
