Questions of mortality greet all four women at the funeral of a fashion designer. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) encounters social death after making the mistake of canoodling with the husband of a socialite, while Charlotte (Kristin Davis) meets a widower whom she is convinced she can give a new lease on life. Miranda's (Cynthia Nixon) purchase of a new apartment sends her into unexpected panic attacks, and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) decides life's too short for regret and attempts to patch things up with Big (Chris Noth).
