Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The UFA-produced documentary Secrets of Nature is a compendium of several short subjects bearing the same "umbrella" title. This feature-length version opens with "the kingdom of the bees," with a few ants and caterpillars thrown in for good measure. One of the ants, industriously attempting to haul a sliver of food to his home, is treated as this episode's "comedy relief." We then move on to a few gruesome glimpses of voracious Piranhas picking a pig's carcass clean. A closing segment highlights a duel a mort between a snake and a mongoose, a sequence which would reappear as stock footage in many a documentary (and non-documentary) to come.
