Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Rose of the Tenements is a vehicle for Shirley Mason, cast as the adopted daughter of a Jewish family. A crisis arises when Mason falls in love with her stepbrother Johnny Harron, likewise an adoptee. More trouble develops when WWI breaks out, and Harron declares himself a conscientious objector, earning the scorn of friends and family alike. After all this emotional input, the film comes to an abrupt and unsatisfying conclusion. Most of the audience's attention was diverted to Sydney Franklin, cast as a stereotyped "pansy."
