Review by Jeremy Wheeler

More than 15 years after the original Patrick Swayze barroom brawler opus Road House, here comes a sequel, complete with just about everything that made the first one such a gas -- minus Sam Elliott and of course, Swayze himself. However, thanks to the movie gods, his character's son likes to kick hick butt just as much as his dear old dad. Cue in Johnathon Schaech, whose appearance here is a bit baffling, though his heart seems to be in it, as evidenced in his screenwriting credit (could he have written all his own lines?). Really though, all Schaech needs to do is wear tight jeans, hook up with the hot country girl, and dish out the pain to redneck fools -- all of which he pulls off swimmingly with varying shades of dumb dude acting 101. The real key to Road House 2 lies in Jake Busey's lunatic performance as the small-town gangster villain, Wild Bill. Busey delivers the over-the-top goods with wild and uncontrolled glee as only a member of his family could. When it comes down to it, the rough and tumble world of Road House is effectively recreated here, with nutty villains, fan boats, and lots of fights of all kinds propelling the flick to its pleasing ending. Road House 2 won't change the world, but it's loads more entertaining than the average straight-to-DVD sequel, which stands for a whole lot in this day and age.
