Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Bob Steele as a singing cowboy? Yes, that is exactly what you get with The Ridin' Fool, an otherwise standard early-'30s low-budget job. The wiry little actor sings "I Fell in Love With You, Can't You Fall in Love With Me?" to pretty Frances Morris, who, unlike the captive audience, actually appears to enjoy the hero's less than startling vocal abilities. Needless to say, Steele was never asked for an encore. Meanwhile, the veteran supporting cast does what it is supposed to do while Fern Emmett, Poverty Row's answer to Margaret Rutherford, supplies some moldy comedy. Also in the cast is Florence Turner, as Frances Morris' ma. A true screen pioneer, Turner was widely known as the "Vitagraph Girl" back in the days when screen performers were anonymous shadows.
