In this epic historical feature, a mother struggles to provide for her young Brahmin son, Ram, after his father's death. The mother is too poor to pay for his education, so the boy leaves determined to become educated. He finds a teacher, and suffers many humiliations, eventually returning home a learned man. On his return, his mother dies, worn out by her hard life. Ram and his wife move to the city where he becomes chief justice for the ruling prince. Here he must contend with court intrigue while using his wisdom to dispense justice. After the prince dies there is a bloody contest for the throne which ends with an assassination. Ram must face his most difficult challenge, overcoming public silence, to bring to justice a member of the court. An epic film, Ramshastri was one of the final productions of the famed Prabhat Studio.
