Synopsis by Janiss Garza

aka Queen O' the Turf Although this old-fashioned horse racing drama was made in Australia, it has exactly the same plot you might find in a Drury Lane melodrama, or in a story about the Kentucky Derby in the States. As a matter of fact, when it was released in America, the distributors tried to re-edit it so that it took place in the South -- quite a stretch for Australian scenery! Brownie Vernon stars as Roberta Morton, who is loved by her rich, but hefty, neighbor, Dennis O'Hara (John Cosgrove). For her birthday he gives her a prize-winning racehorse, Alert. That night, she discovers that O'Hara is lending money to her brother (Robert McKinnon) so he can get himself out of some trouble. Even though she is in love with someone else, she now feels obligated to accept O'Hara's marriage proposal. Some crooks are trying to fix the next race in which Alert has been entered, and they bribe the jockey. Roberta finds out about the scam and takes the jockey's place, riding Alert to victory. O'Hara finds out that Roberta loves another and releases her from her promise to him.
