Review by Steven E. McDonald

This 1979 film by John Cohen delves into the lives of the Qeros Indians who live in the high Peruvian Andes. The film appears to set out to provide a look at the harsh culture of the Qeros, with an accent on their spiritual existence, but in the finish it's a documentary without purpose or focus, wandering around in a haze of images that, cut together, do very little to tell viewers anything about the Qeros or their spiritual lives. Cohen apparently has 30 years of research history when it comes to the Qeros, so it may be that 53 minutes was hardly enough time, filled up as it is with bits and pieces, rather than a single coherent narrative. In trying to tell a great deal in a short time, the film ultimately tells nothing.
