Synopsis by Mark Deming

A straight-laced boy takes a dangerous walk on the wild side in this drama from director Robert Glinski. It's 1990, with the borders between Poland and Germany open for the first time in years, and Tomek (Filip Garbacz) is an honor student at the high school he attends in a town just across the river from Germany. Tomek is a good kid who is active in his church, plays football and works part time at a local market, but his priorities change when he meets Marta (Anna Kulej) at a teen disco. Marta makes it clear she wants a boyfriend who can afford to buy her things, and Tomek wants to make her happy, but he doesn't make enough money to please her. Tomek's pal Ciemny (Daniel Furmaniak) is never short of money, but isn't sure why until Tomek discovers his secret -- Ciemny is a male prostitute whose pimp Borys (Tomasz Tyndyk) tricks him out to wealthy German men. Not wanting to lose Marta, Tomek nervously follows Ciemny's lead, but discovers life as a sex worker is even more grim than he imagined. Swinki (aka Piggies) was an official selection at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
