Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man who lives in a universe of his own is being brought into reality whether he likes it or not in this offbeat drama from Israel Regev (Ofer Shechter) is a computer programmer who after dealing with an emotional collapse has retreated into a private world inside his apartment. For close to four years, Regev hasn't left his flat; he can work from home, he has food and supplies delivered in, he communicates with the outside world through his television and the internet, and he's become comfortable with a life divorced from most human contact. But circumstances are conspiring to separate Regev from his isolated existence. His landlord Yedidya Lepicher (Shlomo Bar-Shavit), a holocaust survivor who has learned a few things about being cut off from society, gives Regev the news that his lease is up and can't be renewed, forcing him to find a new place to live. And new neighbor Daniela (Efrat Baumwald), who works for a marketing firm, becomes increasingly attracted to Regev and is eager to strike up a romance if he'd be willing to step outside every once in a while. But can either love or necessity force Regev to face a world that's become so frightening to him? Phobidilia was the first feature film from the writing and directing team of Yoav Paz and Doron Paz; the screenplay was based on a novel by Isher Har Lev, who also helped pen the screenplay.
