The film PATRIA tells the true story of Arthur Knaap (Timothy Flohr),
a Dutch-Indonesian boy who served as a soldier of the
Foreign Legion enters trench warfare.
There, young Arthur is in great dismay when the horrors of trench warfare cause him to grow up at an accelerated pace. From those trenches, Arthur writes letters home. Emotional letters with stories of the struggle and the zeitgeist. These letters served as the basis for the film script, written by Klaas van Eijkeren, who also took over the direction.
