Synopsis by Mark Deming

A pair of innocent youngsters are lured into a netherworld of sex for money in this drama from first-time director Frederic Mermoud Vincent (Cyril Descours) is a handsome and seemingly well-liked high school student, so when police find his dead body floating in the Rhone River, some on the force suspect foul play. A pair of police detectives -- jaded Herve (Gilbert Melki) and downcast Karine (Emmanuelle Devos) -- are assigned to investigate Vincent's death, and they soon discover that the boy's girlfriend Rebecca (Nina Meurisse) has disappeared. Herve and Karine uncover a shocking secret about Vincent: he was working as a hustler for a male prostitution ring, and Rebecca had taken to joining him on his "dates" to watch him having sex with men. Did the teenagers cross the line in dealing with the sex ring, and are the detectives who unraveled this story in danger? Complices (aka Partners) received its North American debut at the 2009 Chicago International Film Festival.
